“Learning occurs when each student sees him or herself as his or her own best teacher.” That statement is my guiding philosophy as an educator and what has drawn me to Highland Tech Charter School. This unique learning environment empowers students like none other I have encountered in nearly 20 years in education. Helping students achieve mastery should be the goal of every educator and it is Highland’s primary mission.

This year marks my ninth as a principal and 14th as an administrator and my 20th year in education. I am a recent transplant from the Chicago area where my wife is an elementary school library media center director, my son is a high school sophomore who plays saxophone and is a swimmer and my daughter is a seventh grade actress/singer/dancer and soccer player. I am overwhelmed by the beauty and majesty of Alaska and honored to work alongside the extraordinarily passionate and progressive Highland Tech Charter School staff.

I am proud to work with talented and committed educators to ensure that all students become the leaders of their lives. My dream job is collaborating with stakeholders in a learning environment that engages minds and encourages hearts. I am honored to have been at Highland Tech for 9 years, 7 of which were in the science classroom. While I miss the classroom, I have been offered amazing opportunities as an administrator.

When not in my office I am often splashing in puddles with my 3 year old, hiking, skiing, and enjoying these adventures with the amazing people in my life.
